LED Stadium lights are 3 or 4 times more efficient than Metal Halide Lights and last much longer

Metal halide lamps use ballast and are usually comprised of a 1500 Watts bulb with an aluminum spun reflector. LED Field Lights use no ballast, shine light through a lens that should be appropriate for the particular position of the light and the area to be illuminated. Each individual LED will shine the light towards where it is needed, thus reducing the amount of glare spilled towards the audience. LED stadium lights can be 500W or 600W to replace the 1500W or even 2000W metal halide, providing better lighting and at the same time-saving in energy consumption. 

On the field, a split of a second makes the difference and good lighting is of essence. LED lights are eco-friendly, have no mercury and do not produce infrared or ultraviolet emissions.

Selecting the right LED Sports Lighting

LED Stadium Lights are an investment. Firstly because as a general rule, compared to metal halide, sports lights LED consume 20% and deliver higher quality of light and more lumens. Each Led Stadium Flood Light can be aimed at a different spot on the field to produce uniformity in the entire arena.

Because LED come in different powers and voltages to adapt to the wiring of the field on the one hand and on the other hand they can be installed with a variety of beam angles and shapes, the variables involved tend to be overwelming for those who are not specialized in the industry.

Arena Lighting requirements are different from football stadium lights, basketball court lights, race track lights or other field lighting. Each situation requires the right type of LED Stadium Light while investing the smallest amount of money.

LED Field Lighting Efficacy

Relates to how much light the lamp will deliver per each Watt it burns Efficacy = Lumen/Watt. For 2022 the efficacy of LED Stadium Lights ranges from 130Lm/W to 170Lm/W.

LED Stadium Lighting wattage or power

As explained in the previous paragraph, more Watts means more lumens and more lumens meands more light coming out of the LED fixture. While Metal Halide uses from 400W to 2000W, LED stadium lighting can use from 100 to 1250W. Each watt of LED compares up to 5 Watts of HID. As we will see in the next paragraphs, we can use less lights with less wattage to replace current metal halide or HID field lights

LED Arena Lights Beam Angle

This tells about how the lumens are spread and this will allow us to calculate the Foot Candle which is how many lumens hit a surface 1 SqFt. Given thesame distance and light source, the wider the beam angle the lower the Fc.

Number of High Mast LED Lights required

LED sports lighting uses high mast to place the Football field Lights. Lummens add up for each Football field Light added to the project. The number of field lights can be reduced using a higher wattage for each light with a wider beam angle to achieve the same Fc. Reducing the number of fixtures reduces the cost of installation and is easy for maintenance.

With all these variables, how do I know what I need?

You may need a lighting plan that will provide you with a graphic report of your field where you will be able to learn the fixture locations, how many per location, the lumens, mounting angles and beam angles required to reach the ilumination level recommended for yout sports arena or space. We only do lighting plans using our fixtures to customers that demonstrate buying intention of our products or are previous customers.

Basketball Lights and Tennis Court Lighting

To illuminate Basketball courts or Tennis courts some street lights can be used as you can see in this example where 300W were used to replace 1000W metal halide and it can clearly be seen that the LED basketball lights produce a more even lighting with higher visibility. These lights use a specific optics suitable for courts.

Installing LED Sports Lights

Field Lights operate on 110, 220, 277 and up to 480VAC. Most of the LED Stadium Lights that we sell can opertate between 110 and 277VAC or 200-480VAC. Make sure to order the LED Field Lights that operate within the voltage that will be supplied. If you are uncertain, your electrician must check the voltage supplied before ordering.

If you are replacing existing Metal Halide Lights, take down the existing fixture and install the corresponding LED field Lights using the same junction box.
